This systematic approach ensures that every aspect of the guest experience is carefully considered and consistent, leading to greater guest satisfaction and loyalty. Here is a closer look at our method and why each element matters.

Service Design Method

We have divided our method into three main areas to effectively address every aspect of the guest experience:

1. Service Vision & Values

What it is:

This stage focuses on clearly defining and communicating the overall vision for your service. Developing a strong, carefully considered concept clarifies what your service stands for, which core values guide your business, and what sets it apart from the competition.

Why it matters:

A clear service vision and well-defined values create a strong foundation for the entire business. They help attract the right audience while guiding and inspiring employees. When everyone in the company shares the same vision and values, delivering a consistent and memorable guest experience becomes easier.

2. Guest Journey Mapping

What it is:

Guest Journey Mapping is a method for visualising the guest experience from beginning to end. It helps you understand guests’ interactions and emotions at every touchpoint, which is essential for designing a more guest-centred service.

Why it matters:

By mapping the guest journey, you can identify and eliminate pain points while improving every aspect of the experience. This leads to greater guest satisfaction and increases the likelihood of repeat visits. Understanding the guest’s perspective is essential to offering a service that truly meets their needs and exceeds their expectations.

3. Service Blueprint – Service & Sales Behaviours

What it is:

A Service Blueprint maps every step of the service process, visualising both the guest-facing activities and the work that happens behind the scenes. This involves defining clear service and sales behaviours, as well as introducing daily pre-shift meetings to work towards shared and individual goals. It also includes coaching, follow-up, documentation and reflection.

Why it matters:

A detailed plan and clear role descriptions that incorporate your vision, values and communication ensure that every employee knows exactly what is expected of them. This leads to consistently high service standards. Daily pre-shift meetings support continuous improvement and help employees feel engaged and motivated, which in turn improves the guest experience.

Conclusion

Implementing our Service Design Method in hotels and restaurants is essential to building guest loyalty and encouraging repeat visits. By focusing on service vision and values, understanding and improving the guest journey, and clearly defining and putting service and sales behaviours into practice, businesses can ensure that every guest enjoys a memorable and positive experience. This is the key to long-term success in the service industry.

Oscar

When hotels and restaurants develop service concepts that connect their service vision with the guest experience, the process is often referred to as Service Design.
